What Is a Weight Gainer Shake?

A weight gainer shake, sometimes called a weight gainer smoothie, is a shake or smoothie specifically designed to be high in calories and help you gain weight.

They are typically high in calories, protein, carbohydrates and healthy fats. Although you can find both healthy and unhealthy shakes, I prefer going down the healthy route. A healthy weight gainer shake will provide you with much cleaner nutrition and energy.

Ingredients

For this weight-gain smoothie, I used one of my favorite flavor combinations. This shake tastes so good; it’s a breeze to drink.

  • Banana: Use one large ripe banana. A ripe banana will add more sweetness to your smoothie.
  • Peanut Butter: You can use smooth or crunchy peanut butter. The smoothie will be blended, so any works.
  • Milk: I used whole milk for this recipe. It’s high in calories and contains casein protein and amino acids that are excellent for building muscle. Although it does have around 5 grams of lactose sugar per 100 ml. If you want less sugar in your smoothie, try unsweetened almond milk.
  • Weight Gainer Powder: Use a high-quality weight gainer powder that is low in sugar. This is an important ingredient because the brands vary from healthy to unhealthy. If you have a choice of flavors, chocolate works great for this recipe.

Expert Tips & Tricks

Follow these tips and tricks to make this recipe extra delicious and save time washing up.

How to stop ingredients from sticking to the blender

There are two tricks to stop the ingredients from sticking to the blender.

  1. Add the milk first. Adding the milk first will stop the other ingredients from sticking to the bottom of the blender. Especially the peanut butter!
  2. Start the blender on slowly and then slowly turn it up. This stops the smoothie from splashing up the sides of the blender.

Use cold milk

For some, this is a no-brainer, but if you used pasteurized milk and opened a new bottle from the shelf, I recommend placing it in the fridge for 1 to 2 hours. This shake tastes much better cold!

If you’re in a rush, add a couple of ice cubes to the shake before blending.

Step by Step Instructions

1) Measure the ingredients for the weight gainer shake. If your blender has measurements on the side, you can measure the milk inside to save washing up. If not, pour the milk inside first.

Storage Information

Since this recipe has weight gainer powder, you should drink it within 2 hours of making it. Protein powders, like weight gain powders, expire quickly when stored in liquid.

Tip: If you want to store this recipe for a longer time. Make the shake without the weight gain powder and store it in a protein bottle in the fridge. When you are ready to serve, quickly add in the weight gain powder and shake the bottle until it’s incorporated.

This shake will store for up to 3 days without the weight gainer powder.
